CVCC falls to Blinn at World Series

GRAND JUNCTION, Col. — There will be no matchup for Chattahoochee Valley against former Columbus High standout Kyle Carter and Miami Dade on Tuesday night.

CVCC fell 10-2 to Blinn (Texas) on Monday night in a game stopped after the eighth inning due to the mercy rule at Suplizio Field in the JUCO world series.

With Carter pitching a complete game, Miami Dade had won 8-3 earlier in the day setting up the possibility of the Bi-City matchup if the Pirates had been able to beat Blinn.

But CVCC, the No. 1 team in the nation, made three errors that led to four unearned runs and scored only twice despite getting 11 hits.

With the loss, the Pirates (48-10) will fall into the losers bracket to face Spartanburg Methodist at noon Tuesday. Spartanburg is the team Carter beat on Tuesday.

CVCC will now need five straight wins to win the championship.

Blinn got on the board in the top of the second as Caden Williams led off by reaching on an error by John Holland, one of two he made in the game. He scored on a double-play grounder.

CVCC tied the game in the bottom of the second. Tyler Lynn, who reached on a fielder's choice, scored on Kendall Ford's single. Jose Reyes led off the third for Blinn. He scored on a two-out double by Cullen Gassaway.

CVCC put together three singles in the bottom of the third to tie the game again. Cam Sperry singled in Jared Martin.

Blinn took the lead for good in the sixth with a pair of runs. Gassaway drew a one-out walk and Williams walked. After the second out. Reed Robinson reached on an error by third baseman Trevor Kieboom, which allowed both runners to score.

Blinn blew the game open in the eighth with six runs.
