Young Sun Chief pitchers key to season

The 2015 Faulkner State Sun Chiefs look to repeat last season's performance and return to the Region XXII Tournament in Ozark, Alabama.  Most of the starting line-up returns for their second year of competition.

The team's strong suit will be the offense. Six players return to the line- up with solid game experience.  Left fielder, Justin Ware, and first baseman, Christian Snow, will anchor down the middle of the line-up with sophomore shortstop, Caleb Lopes, supplying some added punch after a productive 2014.  Newcomers, Jony Gonzalez and Trey Robinson, should also add to the mix.  Behind the plate, Connor Albano will lead the Chiefs with help from sophomore, Chance Randall.  Cory Wheaton, Bill Glover and Joe Barnett will roam the outfield while Hayden Lott and Dalton Becker anchor down other infield positions.

On the mound the Sun Chiefs will be young and inexperienced.  Sophomores, TJ Hearn and Dennis Singleterry, are expected to carry the load along with lefty Matt Holderfield.  A number of rookie pitchers will have a chance to prove themselves this spring.  Contenders for starting roles from the freshmen group include Robertsdale High School standout, Tony Kucera, and Jonathan White.

Look for the Sun Chiefs to struggle in the early go but come on strong down the stretch.  A conference title seems to be just out of reach but with good defense it could become a reality.  Key losses with the pitching staff will be hard to replace.  The key to the season will lie with the pitchers keeping away from base on balls and steadily improving throughout the season.
