The 2015 baseball team at Central Alabama Community College is busy getting ready for the upcoming season. With just a few returning veteran sophomores and a large class of incoming freshmen, the 2015 team promises much excitement for their fans.
The pitching staff will be completely new to both Central Alabama and college baseball in general. The staff this year will be an all freshmen contingent. Primary pitchers for the 2015 Trojans will be right-handers Will Donahoo (Childersburg H.S.), Hayden Forbus (Benjamin Russell H.S.), Tyler Lowery (Daphne H.S.) and Will Ziebol (Central- Phenix City H.S.). Primary southpaws will include Zach Melton (Foley H.S.) and John Michael Stephens (Charles Henderson H.S.). Newcomers who will split time between the hill and playing a position will include righties Garrett Brown (Opelika H.S.), Nathan Langley (Beauregard H.S.), and Colton Pate (Coosa Valley Academy), plus leftie Braden Olive (Northview H.S.).
The Trojan pitching staff will be handled by another all freshmen lineup behind the plate. Even though they will all be new, the catchers will be counted on to be the strength of the Trojan defense. Handling the duties behind the plate will be Caleb Brooks (Benjamin Russell H.S.), Parker Moman (Ashford H.S.), Tanner Roberts (Alabama Christian Academy), and Jeremiah Summerford (Northview H.S.).
Also seeing many new faces will be the CACC infield, which returns just one sophomore from 2014. This sophomore is A.J. Reynolds (Edgewood Academy) and he will be counted on to be a leader on the field through his maturity and ability to play anywhere in the infield. Newcomers on the diamond will include a freshmen cast which includes Will Alfano (Homewood H.S.), Trevor Bates (Childersburg H.S.), Peyton Logan (Childersburg H.S.), and Brooks Wade (Walker H.S.) Others competing for infield spots will include dual players including Garrett Brown, Nathan Langley, Braden Olive, and Colton Pate.
The outfield will be the most veteran group on the roster as it includes two sophomores. Jack Folmar (Lee Scott Academy) and Nic Griggs (Russell County H.S.) will be the old men of the group and asked to lead yet another group of newcomers. Top freshmen in the outfield will include Cameron Bloebaum (The Walker School, GA), Chris Cusimano (Vestavia Hills H.S.), Ian Kirk (Hoover H.S.), and Bobby Morgan (Vestavia Hills H.S.).
There will be a few Trojans looking ahead to 2016 as they red shirt to give some injuries time to heal. Already enrolled but redshirting will be a very talented trio including Alex Bentley (Childersburg H.S.), Drew Hayles (Greenwood H.S., KY), and Austin Parrish (transfer- Georgia State.).
Last and certainly not least, the 2015 CACC Trojans proudly boast the best student manager in the world, newcomer Peyton Mask (Reeltown H.S.).
The 2015 Trojans are looking to continue to build off of their 2013 NJCAA National Championship and are excited about competing in the newly realigned and always highly challenging Northern Division of the ACCC.
