CVCC falls to NW Florida State in JUCO World Series

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - #14 Northwest Florida State used their energy to top #9 Chattahoochee Valley 10-1 in game 13 of the Alpine Bank Junior College World Series.

The first two innings went by fast as each team retired batters in order.  In the bottom of the second, Raider center fielder Mack Hathcock would make a spectacular catch to end the inning.

In the top of the third, Northwest Florida (40-12) would strike first as Hathcock would reach base via a throwing error by Pirates third baseman Ryan Hagen.  Aaron Palmer would follow with an RBI double down the line to score Hathcock. 

In the fifth, the Raiders would attack again as Dakota Dean singled up the middle scoring Palmer while Tanner Halstead doubled down the line, scoring dean.  They would score three more in the sixth capped by Hunter Bening hit a 2-run screaming shot home run through the wind and rain. 

Chattahoochee Valley would get on the board in the bottom of the seventh with a 345 foot home run down the right field line by Hagen.  However, Northwest Florida would seal the game with three more in the top of the eighth inning. 

Palmer, who ended the night with four RBI, would strike with 2-RBI dou le down the left field line.  Following a walk and a pitching change, a scary moment occurred at Raider catcher Halstead took an inadvertent pitch square to the center front portion of his helmet.  Halstead was attended to by physicians on the field and walked to the dugout after the play.  He would go to the hospital following the game for further test.  The Raiders would plate one final run on a walk.

With their back against the wall, the Pirates tried to string together some hits, but they hit into a double play and struck out to end the game.  Chattahoochee Valley will play Wednesday at 3:00pm MT again #1 Iowa Western in an elimination game while Northwest Florida State will play #2 Walters State at 7:30pm MT.
