Cardinals Fly Past Eagles At Homecoming Saturday

MONROEVILLE – Alabama Southern Community College's homecoming festivities got dampened somewhat by the Cardinals of Gadsden State, who swept both games Saturday in Monroeville.

The Lady Eagles fell to the Lady Cardinals 82-58. Gadsden State, which is in the Northern Division of the ACCC, sports a 20-3 mark on the season and are tied for first in their division.

The Lady Cardinals led by two at the half, 33-31 but emerged from the locker room on fire, going on a 49-27 run in the second to claim the 82-58 victory.

For Alabama Southern, Jasmine McCants had 16 points and 16 rebounds. Leightra Nance had 13 points, five rebounds and four steals while Jasman Hamilton had 12 points, six rebounds and three steals.

The loss dropped the Lady Eagles to 9-13 on the season.

The Eagles fell by eight to the Cardinals, 83-75. Antonio Chapman had 21 points in the game followed by Desmond Williams with 18 points, Charlie Wilson with 12 points and Don Speake with 10 points. Defensively, Wilson had 16 rebounds while Williams had 11.

The loss drops the Eagles to 7-16 overall on the season.

The Eagles will be in action in Monroeville again on Thursday, Feb. 5 at home against the Saints of Lurleen B. Wallace Community College. The Lady Eagles tip off at 5:30 followed by the Eagles at 7:30 in the Cooper Center on the ASCC Campus.

The teams will travel to Phenix City Monday, Feb. 9 to take on Chattahoochee Valley Community College. The Lady Eagles tip off at 5:30 and the Eagles begin at 7:30. Both of those are Eastern times.

Eagles Notch Win Over Wallace State-Selma

On Thursday night, the Eagles got an important conference win by defeating Wallace State-Selma 97-82 in Monroeville.

The two teams battled to a 40-40 stalemate at the half but ASCC outgunned the Patriots 57-42 in the second half to claim the win.

Antonio Chapman tallied 33 points in the game followed by Johnny Stallworth with 26, Desmond Williams with 25 and Charlie Wilson with 10. Defensively, Wilson had 23 rebounds in the game while Desmond Williams had 11.

The win upped the Eagles to 4-3 in conference play. Currently, they are in fourth place behind Faulkner, Chattahoochee Valley and LBW.

The Lady Eagles suffered a setback against the Lady Patriots, falling 67-58.

Amber Roberts and Jasmine McCants had 14 points each for the lady Eagles in the Contest. Defensively, McCants had 11 rebounds.

The Lady Eagles fell to 4-2 in conference play, tied for second with Wallace State-Selma behind Chattahoochee Valley, which is 5-1 in conference play.

ASCC downs Jeff Davis

Alabama Southern's Eagles extended their winning streak to two games and upped their conference record to 3-3 by grounding the Warhawks of Jeff Davis Community College 79-63 in Brewton Monday night.

The Eagles jumped out to a 44-29 lead at the half then outpaced the homestanding Warhawks 35-34 in the second half to take the 16-point win.

Antonio Chapman had a career night for the Eagles, pumping in 30 points. He was followed by Charlie Wilson with 12 points and Don Speake with 10. Defesively, Wilson pulled down 12 rebounds in the game.
