BOAZ – The Snead State softball team went 2-3 over the weekend in Texas taking down powerhouse Navarro College and Kilgore College to kick off their 2016 season.

"We've set a team goal of a national championship with a Region 22 Championship and ACCC North Division Championship along the way," said Coach Tracy Grindrod.

"We're looking to get better each week and improve as the season progresses getting ready for conference play and then peek during post season play."

The team is returning 11 sophomores and has welcomed 12 freshmen to its roster.

Grindrod is entering his third season as the head coach of the Lady Parsons.

"We expect our players to set the standard in the classroom, for them to be role models in the community and to give back to the game when they have the chance."

Several of the Snead State Lady Parsons are graduates from local schools including Albertville, Douglas, Sardis, Geraldine and Susan Moore.

"We use softball as a means to teach our players about life and prepare them for the four-year college experience and for life after college," said Coach Grindrod.

"We will teach them about time ownership, responsibility, accountability and how to learn from their mistakes and failures. Hard work and commitment to the program are essential to our success both on the field and in the classroom."

Four Snead State Parsons were named Academic All-Americans last year. The team finished the 2015 fall term with a 3.10 grade point average.
