Lady Lions take down SUSCC

The No. 23 Wallace State Lady Lions dismantled Southern Union in Thursday's opener, getting another strong performance from freshman Morgan Smith and solid contributions from the bench.

Smith neared a double-double, scoring 20 points and collecting nine rebounds for the Lady Lions (22-3, 5-0 ACCC), who have won eight games in a row and 18 of 19.

Wallace State's bench was also a huge factor, combining for 55 points. Morgan Pearson and Kaneisha Mixon each scored 10 off the bench, Haven Albright had eight and Morgan Hardy, Ashley Rodgers and Amber Carey scored seven apiece. BreAnna Thompson also added six points off the bench.

Wallace State, which is also a perfect 12-0 at home, led 51-33 at the break.

For Southern Union, Sadarian Beasley scored 18 points and Jackee Dodd finished with 16.

Both Wallace State teams play four of their final five conference games on the road. They'll both travel to Lawson State on Saturday. The final regular season home game for both clubs is Feb. 24.
