Chattahoochee Valley Will Lean on Freshmen

Chattahoochee Valley Will Lean on Freshmen

The Chattahoochee Valley Lady Pirates are looking to take another step forward after boasting an undefeated ACCC Southern Division campaign with an overall mark of 20-7 last season, eventually losing to ACCC Champion Shelton State in the Semi-Finals. The Lady Pirates will depend largely on a talented group of freshmen as they return only three players from last years ACCC Southern Division Champion squad.

Returning sophomore guard Brakia Bateman and guard/forward Sierra Porter will lead the Lady Pirate attack. Bateman has exceptional quickness at the point and will be counted on to facilitate the Lady Pirate offensive attack. Porter is an excellent defender with the ability to shift the games momentum on the defensive end.  Sophomore center Aaliyah Coleman will occupy the paint as the pirates remain hopeful for return of sophomore post Lakeiya McElroy, who went down early preseason with an ACL injury.

The talented group of freshmen joining Bateman and Porter at the guard/forward position include 2014 Georgia Class 4-A State Champion Jamese Abney (Redan H.S., Atlanta, GA), Skyy Ellis (Jeff Davis H.S., Montgomery, AL), Shakenya Peters (Southwest H.S., Macon, GA), Jasmin Bell (Clark Central H.S., Lawrenceville, GA). Abney and Ellis both have the ability to light-up the score board while Peters will bring toughness on both sides of the ball. Bell will have to grow up fast as she will required to provide valuable minutes at the point. Rounding off the freshmen class is guard/forward MyKiesha Darden(Faith Academy Christian School, Greenville, Ga). Darden will be one of the league's most versatile players with the ability to effectively play every position on the floor. Closing out the Lady Pirate roster is sophomore transfer Akeria Lamons (Enterprise State CC, Enterprise, AL).

Talent is nothing short of special with this year's squad. However, the young Pirate women will have to mature and develop chemistry early to compete at their full potential in the competitive ACCC. With little experience at every position, leadership will be the key to the Lady Pirates 2014-2015 season.
